๐ง Travel Trivia Challenge! ๐ซ
Question: The Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 reshaped the city's downtown. On which holiday did it strike? ๐ต๐น๐
A) Christmas Day
B) All Saints' Day
C) Easter Sunday
D) New Year's Day
(Scroll down for the reveal!)
๐ Destination of the Week: Lisbon, Portugal ๐ต๐น๐
November in Lisbon is the sweet spot: summer crowds are gone, and the city's 1991โ2020 climate normals put the average November high around 64ยฐF (18ยฐC) and the low around 53ยฐF (12ยฐC). Pack a rain layer, though: November averages about 10 rainy days (IPMA).
The Vibe: Tiled facades, hilltop viewpoints, riverside sunsets and long seafood lunches.
Key Highlight: Late November is when Lisbon starts going full Christmas mode. Wonderland Lisboa in Parque Eduardo VII (Ferris wheel, stalls, free entry in past editions) is listed for Nov 27, 2026 โ Jan 3, 2027, and the big tree and lights at Praรงa do Comรฉrcio are expected around Nov 21. [RE-CHECK before sending: neither date is confirmed by Lisbon's official tourism site yet.]
Safety Snapshot: The U.S. State Department rates Portugal Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions. Petty theft is the main issue. The U.S. OSAC report flags the famous Tram 28 as "particularly notorious for pickpocketing," along with busy areas like Baixa, Alfama, Bairro Alto, Rossio station and Belรฉm. Don't stand by tram doors, keep your phone off the table at street cafรฉs, and never leave bags in a rental car.
